Celebrate the small victories, set up goals and reward yourself!
A lot of people think they don’t receive the fair treatment at work.
What do I mean by that?
Let’s say you just finished a project with your team. John gets praised,
while you don’t even get a “thank you”. How does that make you feel?
“Well, I don’t really care, I’m used to it.”
That’s what you think. In time, these things add up and will come out
one way or another. You’ll either get frustrated, fed up or you’re going to
lash out at your boss and/or quit.
fatigue, sense of failure or self-doubt, loss of motivation etc. Which
will lead to reduced performance, procrastination or even resorting to some bad
habits. Please don’t adopt unhealthy habits. Take care of yourself because all
these symptoms, long-term might lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, type
2 diabetes etc. It’s no joke.
What can you do?
First of all, identify the exact situations that affect you and
strategize how to deal with them.
“I get really stressed out when my boss says that we need to get a big
project done in a really short period of time.”
How often does this happen?
“Every couple of weeks.”
Are you stressed out because the time is short and you have a lot of
work OR because you don’t trust yourself enough to get it done?
Let’s talk both situations, if the deadline is short all the time and
you get it done anyways without putting your health at risk, then you don’t
have anything to worry about. If you’re always cutting it close and you ignore
your health, then it’s a problem. If the manager doesn’t understand the
wellbeing of his employees, then it’s time to say good bye. No job or business
is worth your health , no matter how much money you make.
If you don’t trust yourself, then that’s something you need to work on. Start by celebrating the small victories, set up goals for yourself, reward yourself when you achieve them and things will change!
Having some great colleagues at work helps a lot, you can push each other and talk things through when the situation isn’t that good. Vacations might help for a while as well, but if you go back to the same environment without a stronger mind, you will end up in the same situation.
Exercise, eat healthy,
meditate, read a book, find a hobby that gives you a sense of fulfilment and
that’s going to help you get over the hard times. Relax your mind, focus on the
positives and things will change.
